Time Capsule Note

Write a private note to your future self that stays hidden until a date you choose — then unlocks automatically.

About this tool

The idea of a time capsule — sealing a message away to be opened only after a set amount of time has passed — is old enough to predate digital technology entirely, going back to physical boxes buried with instructions not to open them for decades or even centuries. The appeal has always been the same: some messages are meant for a future version of yourself or someone else, and the whole point is that they genuinely can't be read early, which is what gives the eventual reveal its weight.

A digital time capsule note recreates that same basic mechanic in miniature and on a much shorter timescale — instead of decades, it might be a note to yourself one month from now about a goal you're setting today, or a message meant to surface on a specific future date like an anniversary. The mechanic that matters is the same regardless of scale: you write something now, set a date, and the content stays genuinely hidden until that date arrives.

This version keeps everything local to your own browser — your note is saved only on your device using local storage, never uploaded anywhere, which means it's private by default rather than by policy. Write your message, choose an unlock date, and it stays locked and hidden until that date passes, at which point it reveals itself automatically the next time you open the page.

How to use it
  1. Write your message.
  2. Choose an unlock date.
  3. Press Lock it away — come back after that date to read it.
FAQ
Where is my note stored?

Only in this browser's local storage — it never leaves your device or gets uploaded anywhere.

What happens if I clear my browser data before the unlock date?

The note will be lost — this is a lightweight, browser-only tool, not permanent cloud storage.
